Report of the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the 8th Assembly of Bawku Municipal Assembly held on 1st September, 2021 at the Conference Hall.

Bawku Municipal Assembly held its second Ordinary meeting of the second session on Thursday 1st September, 2021 at the Bawku Municipal Assembly Conference Hall. In her address to the Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Hawa Ninchema touched on key areas such as Finance, Education, Health, Sanitation as well as projects and programs undertaken by the Office of the Bawku Municipal Assembly.  She stated that, the Office of the Bawku Municipal Assembly was undergoing trying times in terms of finances due to the non-release of the District Assembly Common Fund for the past three quarters coupled with inadequate revenue mobilization of the Internally Generated Funds.  This, she said, had affected the implementation of planned programs and activities of the Assembly.

She added that Internally Generated Funds collections was GH₵ 617, 650.01 as at the end of July 2021 representing 46.2% of the annual budget of GH₵ 1,331,004.38. Touching on the ceding of some revenue heads to the Green Concept African Limited, Hon Hawa Ninchema informed the House that all formalities had been completed and the contract signed for a period of one year at 12% monthly commission subject to renewal.  The Municipal Chief Executive enumerated a number of projects which had been awarded by the Assembly as follows;

1. 1No. CHPS compound with office and furniture at Missiga.

2. Construction of 1No. 3-unit classroom with office, store, 4-seater KVIP toilet, 1No. 2-unit urinal and teachers’ furniture at Lalsa.

      3. Construction of 1No. 3 bedroom nurses’ accommodation and mechanized borehole and submersible pump and overhead tank at Missiga.

4. Construction of 3No.  Market stores at Daduri.

 She added that, the Municipality had received one thousand dual metal desk from the Northern Development Authority and had been distributed to 21 Primary and Junior High Schools.  She also stated that, construction of 5No. refuse containers had begun to augment the already exiting ones in order to improve the sanitation of the Municipality.

Speaking on the general security situation of the Municipality, the MCE informed the house that, the stability of security in the Municipality had been threatened with two separate incident of shooting leading to the death of two people.  However, she assured the house that the situation was under control as the Municipal Security Council was working tirelessly with the Bawku Inter ethnic Peace Committee to get to the root of the issue.  She emphasized the need for all to earnestly guide the peace that we are all enjoying.

She ended her address by thanking members for their support towards the development of the Municipality.
