BAWKU MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY INAUGURATES REVENUE TASK FORCE
Revenue is the lifeline of every Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly in Ghana as it impacts on every Department of the Assembly. Revenue provides key insights into the Local Government system as it is needed to meet the developmental needs of Ghanaians at the local level. Since 1957, District Assemblies in Ghana have been required by law to finance local development projects with revenue generated in their respective areas of jurisdiction. The importance of effective revenue mobilization cannot be over-emphazised. It is against this backdrop that the Office of the Bawku Municipal Assembly inaugurated its Revenue taskforce on the 23rd of February, 2021 at the Municipal Conference Hall.

Hon. Abubakar I. Bawa, the Presiding Member of the Bawku Municipal Assembly in his remarks, stated that the former revenue taskforce had become dormant and eventually non-existent. He added that its reactivation was important as it would facilitate the work of the Assembly by raking in the needed revenue for implementation of the activities and programs of the Assembly. He further stated that the untimely releases of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund made it unreliable and as such, there was the need to mobilize resources locally to implement activities of the Assembly. He admonished the taskforce to be a working one as they were well able to undertake the task. He appealed to the Municipal Coordinating Director to give needed support when the need arises.
Hon. David Adoliba, Chairman of the Revenue Taskforce, was grateful that the revenue taskforce of the Bawku Municipal Assembly had been inaugurated. He pledged his readiness to work with the Secretariat to raise enough revenue to implement the developmental activities of the Municipal Assembly. He also stated that they would be using the media to educate the citizenry of the Municipality to understand the purpose of the taskforce. He thanked all media houses present and called on them to give the revenue taskforce the needed support to use their platform. He also called on management of the Municipal assembly to advance him the needed support anytime the need be. The members of the taskforce are
