Report on the 36th National Farmers’ Day of Bawku Municipality held on 6th November, 2020 at Buabula

The 36th Edition of the National Farmers’ Day for the Bawku Municipality was held on the 6th of November, 2020 at Buabula. The National Farmers’ Celebration affords the opportunity, as a nation, to recognize and appreciate our farmers for their contributions. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Ensuring Agribusiness Development under COVID-19–Opportunities and Challenges.

In her address to the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Hawa Ninchema stated that, although Agriculture was the main economic backbone of the country, the outbreak of COVID-19 has had serious adverse effects on this sector. She further stated that we needed new ways of thinking to surmount the challenges or the adverse effects the disease poses on agriculture as well as equally identify and seize the opportunities it presents so that we can, as a nation, continue to produce and feed our people amidst the pandemic. She added that the implementation of the numerous interventions, policies and programs by the Nana Addo led government had indeed paid off especially during this period of the novel COVID-19 as the woes of the country may have worsened without these interventions.

Hon. Hawa Ninchema also stated that this year’s awards would comprise motorkings, motorbikes, bicycles, farm implements among others which were an incommensurate appreciation of the hard work of our farmers. She hoped that all our award winners would do more and inspire those who might not get any award to also work harder.

She also used the occasion to remind participants to sustain the peace the Municipality was enjoying in the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary Elections as well as entreating all registered voters in the Municipality to come out in their numbers to cast their votes.
